The company had initially announced the expansion to Android Auto in 2023 as essential features like meeting participation directly can be done on the infotainment screen. Despite the initial promise, the company faced delays, leaving Android Auto users without the anticipated Microsoft Teams integration. However, Microsoft has now confirmed that the finishing touches for Android Auto optimizations are in progress, with the release scheduled for February.
While detailed specifics are pending, Microsoft assures that Android Auto users will be able to join meetings from the calendar view, view recent calls, and make calls to contacts from the speed dial. Notably, video calls won’t be supported on Android Auto due to safety concerns. Users seeking a comprehensive meeting experience will need to pull over and utilize their mobile devices. This move by Microsoft reflects a sense of urgency, as competitors like Zoom and Webex by Cisco have already integrated with Google’s platform.
Interestingly, Microsoft Teams made its debut on CarPlay back in 2021, aligning with the company’s strategy to cater to platform-specific user bases.
