MG Air EV Spotted Testing In India

MG is preparing to launch the entry-level electric vehicle MG Air in India soon, prior to that the test mule of the vehicle is seen testing in the country. However, MG strongly stepped into the passenger electric mobility segment a couple of years back. Now the manufacturer is looking forward to bringing an affordable EV for urban commutes. MG Air is a very compact EV measuring a length of only 2900 mm. To give an idea of how small the vehicle is we can say that the Air EV is smaller than the Tata Nano.

The vehicle hosts a boxy design language and the design helps the vehicle to maximize the space inside with thin straight panels. The vehicle seen testing is camouflaged but it features the same design language as the Wuling Air EV, which is on sale in Indonesia and the vehicle in clear flesh was showcased at the 2023 auto expo. The production-spec in India may not face any changes to the styling. The vehicle is built on MGs’ latest Global Small Electric Vehicles (GSEV) platform. The EV is a 2 door model.

The vehicle host a tall body and large glass area, the larger windscreens give the Air an airy greenhouse which compensates for the vehicle’s compactness by giving a roomy feel. The vehicle lacks a hood, the front fascia of the Air gets large headlights and on top of that gets an LED DRL strip. Over the side, the vehicle gets flat panels with a large glass area. At the rear, the vehicle gets a similar flat body panel with a full-width light bar and trapezoidal tail lamps. The vehicle is expected to come equipped with 20 kWh to 25 kWh battery pack that produces around 40 hp and is expected to get a real-world range of 150 km. The 25 kWh battery pack can be fully charged in under 5 hours using a 6.6 kW AC charger, while MG could offer fast charging capabilities as well.
