Maruti To Launch Swift Facelift With New 1.2 L Dualjet Petrol Engine

Maruti Suzuki launched the third generation Swift in 2018, the hatchback continues to rule its segment but the competition is intense so the company is planning to introduce an update even though globally Suzuki revealed a mild-facelift version of Swift. The major highlight of the India-spec model is going to be the new 1.2 L Dualjet engine, which will replace the current 1.2 L engine. This new engine is more powerful than the outgoing unit.

Most of the manufacturers are currently offering turbo petrol engines and it has become a trend in the Indian automotive industry but Maruti is yet to join this battle. Instead of turbo petrol engines to boost power and performance, the company is taking a different approach with petrol hybrid engine setup, which delivers the best of both worlds. India’s largest car manufacturer by volume is not offering diesel engines.

The new 1.2 L Dualjet engine produces 90 hp, which is 7 hp more than the outgoing engine and the power to weight ratio is 100 hp, which will help the Swift to improve performance as 0-100 kph is expected to be around 10.5 sec along with a slight bump in top speed too. The hybrid engine setup along with excellent tuning of Maruti could make the Swift even more fuel-efficient. The transmission options are expected to remain the same.

The India-spec model won’t come with all the design tweaks of International model as the front get bigger grille along with redesigned headlamps and a new bumper with slightly larger air-intake. The changes to the side include new large alloy wheels while the rear gets tweaked tail lamps and a new bumper. Maruti will offer larger infotainment system with connected car features and new trim options in the updated model as the launch could take place in the third quarter of 2020.
