Made-In India Maruti Suzuki Jimny Is More Expensive In South Africa

The five-door version of the Maruti Jimny, manufactured in India, has made its debut in the South African market. However, the thrill comes with a slightly heftier price tag, as the South African variant is priced at Rs. 2 lakh more than its Indian counterparts. Available in three distinct variants, the South African pricing for the Maruti Jimny ranges from Rs. 17 lakh to Rs. 21 lakh (373,826 Rand to 417,304 Rand, excluding VAT). This marks a noteworthy increase compared to the Indian market, where the Jimny lineup starts at Rs. 12.74 lakh and reaches up to Rs. 15.05 lakh (ex-showroom).

Despite the price disparity, South African buyers will enjoy the same set of features as their Indian counterparts. The three available variants—Zeta MT, Alpha MT, and Alpha AT—offer a comprehensive package, including all four power windows, a touchscreen infotainment system, climate control, power mirrors, cruise control, and LED headlamps. Under the hood, the South African Maruti Jimny is powered by the 1.5-litre petrol engine, specifically the older K15B mill, generating 100 bhp and 130 Nm of torque.

Customers can opt for either a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic transmission. Notably, all three variants come equipped with 4WD, featuring both high range and low range, ensuring optimal performance in diverse terrains. This global expansion of the Maruti Jimny not only showcases India’s manufacturing prowess but also introduces a reliable and feature-rich off-roader to the South African market. As the demand for compact SUVs with robust off-road capabilities continues to rise globally, Maruti Jimny’s international journey is poised to make waves among adventure seekers worldwide.
