Kia Seltos EV Confirmed For Global Debut In August

Kia Seltos EV will make its global debut later this year, but the electric SUV is going to be available only in the Chinese market according to a leaked document. The Korean manufacturer is not planning to introduce this model in any other markets as of now but the Seltos has been a huge success for the company in Indian market and EVs are gaining more acceptance, so we could hope that Kia might changes its plans and they could launch the model in India too.

The Seltos EV is likely to be available with two different battery packs – Standard and Long Range. Some reports have indicated that the Seltos EV might come with same battery pack as Kona EV. The standard model come with 39.2 kWh battery pack and it produces 136 PS and 395 Nm. Hyundai is currently offering this version of Kona EV in the Indian market and the claimed range is around 312 km. The company also offers fast charging to make it easier for the customer.

The Long Range variant gets a 64.2 kWh battery pack with 204 PS and 395 Nm. According to the official claims, the range is 482 km. Hyundai also offers an EV version of Elantra in the Chinese market as it uses 56.5 kWh battery pack with 184 PS and 310 Nm. The claimed range is 310 km, which is more or less similar to the Kona EV. Kia might use this battery pack instead of the Kona EV for the standard variant.

Kia is planning to introduce the Seltos EV in August and they are planning to manufacturer around 10,000 units annually. In India, the Korean manufacturer will introduce the new Sonet compact SUV as the concept was showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo and it is based on the Hyundai Venue. The SUV design theme along with upmarket interior and a long list of features is expected to make the model more popular in the Indian market.
