Hyundai has unveiled its electric crossover Ioniq 5 in India. The Ioniq 5 is the first-born electric vehicle from the brand which was unveiled globally on 23 February 2021. The car has received a bunch of awards since its launch and it was crowned the world car of the year in 2022. Hyundai unveiled its flagship electric cross-over in the country in a unique way. The brand uses the car’s V2L technology to power the launch event and the launch was magnificent with the projected lights at the gateway of India.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is built on the E-GMP, Electric- Global Modular Platform a dedicated platform for the EV. The car measures 4,635mm in length, 1,890mm in width and 1,625m in wheelbase. The E-GMP platform of the Ioniq 5 is built on tenets of modularity, performance, reliability, and usability. With E-GMP, Hyundai Ioniq 5 offers an innovative and spacious interior. To make it a completely green car Hyundai Ioniq 5 features the application of eco-friendly materials across various touchpoints.

The Ioniq 5 is distinctively very unique from other electric vehicles it chooses a retro styling over the exterior making it more appealing in this transition era whereas other electric vehicles are made more futuristic with overdesigned elements. The front carries the Parametric Pixel LED headlamps, with the pixel design carried over to the front bumper. It also comes with an active air flap, which improves aerodynamic efficiency when closed and provides ventilation when open. It rides on 20-inch alloy wheels with a parametric design meant to maximize aerodynamic efficiency. The rear gets LED taillamps with the signature pixel design.

Ioniq 5 interior is very minimalistic since the floor is flat the carmaker is able to give maximum space inside by giving a slimmer dashboard and styling. the seat is very comfortable and it offers electrically adjustable recline and calf support at the front seat. The centre console is movable creating adequate space and good ergonomics. Hyundai has used sustainable materials like fabrics made from recycled plastic and eco-friendly leather for the upholstery. It has also used bio-paint for the crash pads, switches, steering wheels, and door pads. 

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 in India comes with a rear-mounted electric motor that produces 217bhp and 350Nm of torque. This motor draws power from a 72.6kWh battery pack which has been placed in the floor between the front and the rear axles for weight balance. Hyundai claims an ARAI-certified range of 631km. The battery can be charged via a 350kW DC fast charger which takes 18 minutes to fill it up from 10 to 80 per cent. The car also supports V2L (vehicle to load), which allows the battery to be used to power other electrical appliances.

Built on a superior body structure that has been strengthened with AHSS (Advanced High Strength Steel) & HSS (High Strength Steel) application and an extensive application of hot-stamping to assure superior protection in the event of a collision. It is also equipped with an advanced driver-assist system.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 is offered in 3 exterior colour options that include – Gravity gold matte, Optic White, and Midnight black pearl. Hyundai IONIQ 5 will offer futuristic interior tones with Dark pebble grey interior colour. The car will be a locally assembled model which will make it more affordable than its sibling Kia EV6 which will encourage more people to buy this world-class electric crossover. booking of the Ioniq 5 has started customers can pre-book the car with a premium of 1 lakh INR.
