CONFIRMED: Skoda Rapid Won’t Get CNG Option

Fuel prices in India are one of the highest in the world and most of the customers are looking for alternative options to keep the cost down. Most of the volume manufacturers are planning to introduce more CNG models as they are popular among customers. Tata Motors will soon introduce Tiago CNG while Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai are actively promoting their respective CNG models. There were some rumours about Skoda planning to introduce the CNG option on Rapid as it is available only with a petrol engine.

Zac Hollis, Director of Skoda Auto India confirmed on Twitter that the company has no plans to introduce Rapid with a CNG option and he further added that they are continually reviewing future model plans. Earlier a CNG Rapid was spotted on the test, which fueled the rumour that the sedan might get a CNG option. Skoda Rapid is powered by a 1.0 L TSI engine with 110 hp and 175 Nm, mated to a 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque convertor. The sedan is going to compete against Honda City, Hyundai Verna and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.
