BMW i4’s Success Paves the Way: BMW’s i5 Set to Electrify the Indian Market

In the world of luxury electric vehicles (EVs), BMW has been making significant strides, particularly in the Indian market. With the iX leading the charge as the best-selling electric vehicle in India, BMW India has firmly established itself as a leader in the Indian luxury EV segment. Building on this success, the company is all set to expand its electric sedan portfolio with the introduction of the new i5 next year. The i4, which is the most affordable electric sedan offered by BMW in India, has been nothing short of a sensation. Its aggressive pricing strategy made it an instant hit with Indian consumers. Now, BMW is gearing up to replicate that success with the new i5.

The recently unveiled i5 is essentially the electric version of the new 5 Series, which made its global debut earlier this year. Gishil Bose, CEO of BMW EVM AutoKraft is one of the special guests invited from India to get a special preview of the i5 in Portugal. The i5 will come in two specifications – the rear-wheel-drive eDrive40 and the four-wheel-drive M60 xDrive. The eDrive40’s electric motor boasts an impressive 340hp and 430Nm of torque, resulting in a claimed 0-100kph time of just 6.0 seconds and a top speed of 193kph.

On the other hand, the M60 xDrive combines a rear-mounted electric motor with a smaller front-mounted motor, producing a combined system output of a remarkable 601hp and 820Nm of torque. This configuration enables the M60 xDrive to sprint from 0 to 100kph in a mere 3.8 seconds and reach an electronically limited top speed of 230kph. Both i5 models are equipped with an 81.2kWh lithium-ion battery as standard. The eDrive40 offers an impressive claimed range of 497-582km (WLTP), while the more powerful M60 xDrive delivers a claimed range of 455-516km on the WLTP cycle. With the introduction of the i5, BMW continues to push the boundaries of electric mobility, offering a compelling blend of performance, range, and luxury. As the i4 laid the foundation for BMW’s electric sedan success in India, the i5 is poised to take the electric luxury segment to new heights, further solidifying BMW’s position as a leader in the Indian EV market. Stay tuned for the official debut of this electrifying addition to the BMW family.
