All Electric Ford Mustang To Start Production In 2029

Ford Mustang is the iconic Muscle car from the brand and it has a very cult fan following since it’s the first generation. The Mustang stands in a very prominent position in the history of American muscle cars. The current selling model is the seventh generation of the Mustang which comes with an internal combustion engine. However, this will be most likely the last generation of the Mustang to come with an ICE engine.

The carmaker announced that the all-electric Ford Mustang will start its production by 2029. The iconic muscle car will never be able to feel and enjoy the roaring V8 anymore after 2029. The all-electric Mustang will be built on the new Ford’s GE2.2 platform. This GE2.2 platform will underpin other electric models of the brand like the second-gen Mach-E, a new Mach-E Coupe, and the all-electric versions of the Escape & Explorer.

This platform is a dedicated EV-only platform hence no ICE engine will be on offer. However, the current generation model will be sold till the end of this decade. The early 2029 production timeline of the Mustang EV will give Ford’s Flat Rock plant near Detroit, Michigan, USA, time for any factory re-tooling.

The current generation Ford Mustang was introduced in 2022. The iconic muscle car is powered by a 2.3-litre EcoBoost four-cylinder engine that produces a maximum power of 310 hp and 407 Nm of torque and a 5.0-litre naturally-aspirated V8 engine produces a maximum power of 396 bhp and 515 Nm of torque. Both engines are offered with a 6-speed manual or a 10-speed automatic transmission unit.
