By Volkswagen officially launched the updated BS6 Polo and Vento in March. Even though both these models are available with manual and automatic, the former is only available right now. The German manufacturer is yet to begin production of automatic models at its Chakan plant because of COVID-19 restrictions. According to a new report, Volkswagen is expected to start deliveries of Polo and Vento automatic versions by August as production might begin next month.
The Polo was the first mass-market model of Volkswagen in India and the model has been on sale for more than 10 years. The Vento and Polo are the oldest models in their respective segments. We are expecting Volkswagen to introduce a new generation of Vento by 2022 while the next-generation Polo is not sure about its India entry. But the demand for both Polo and Vento has seen a resurgence in the recent week’s thanks to the new BS6 engines.
The Polo and Vento were both available in petrol and diesel engines earlier but VW discontinued the diesel engine as they became petrol only. The only engine which has been retained from earlier model is the 1.0 L MPI engine as the 1.2 L turbo petrol has been replaced by new 1.0 L turbo petrol engine, which produces 110 hp of power and 175 Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter instead of 7-speed DSG in the earlier model.
Even though many people were skeptical about the 1.0 L TSI engine but when we drove the Polo with this new engine, all the worries have gone as the engine offers lots of power in any gear with amble amount of torque across the rev-range.
