Toyota India is gearing up to launch the new, ninth-generation Camry on December 11, bringing a blend of fresh styling, upgraded features, and a petrol-hybrid powertrain to the Indian market. This new model replaces the outgoing version that has been in showrooms since 2019 and was given a facelift in 2022. Though the latest Camry showcases a new exterior design, it continues to ride on Toyota’s modular TNGA-K platform, a base widely shared with several Toyota and Lexus vehicles globally.
In terms of aesthetics, the new Camry reflects an evolved design from its predecessor. It is slightly longer but retains the same wheelbase. Up front, the car adopts a Lexus-like appearance, particularly around the grille and lower bumper with its anvil-shaped design. Compact LED headlamps with daytime running lights enhance its modern character. Along the sides, sharp lines accentuate the sedan’s profile, and at the rear, newly designed ‘C’-shaped tail-lights provide a refreshed look.
The interior has seen a substantial overhaul. The redesigned dashboard now features dual digital displays, including a 7-inch digital instrument cluster and a floating 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen. Toyota is expected to offer tech enhancements like a JBL premium audio system, a heads-up display, a digital key, and more. The focus remains on delivering a premium chauffeur-driven experience for markets like India. Rear-seat passengers benefit from reclining and ventilated seats, with controls for blinds and other functions conveniently placed in the center. Safety and driver assistance features have been upgraded, with the new Camry set to come equipped with Toyota’s Safety Sense package. This includes advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) such as dynamic radar cruise control with curve speed reduction, lane departure alert with steering assist, and a pre-collision braking system.
Powering the Camry is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, paired with two electric motors that produce a combined 227 horsepower. The hybrid system utilizes an eCVT gearbox for seamless shifting. Toyota claims an improved fuel efficiency of around 25 kmpl, a significant jump from the 19.1 kmpl of the outgoing model. The new Camry will be assembled locally at Toyota’s Bidadi plant in Karnataka using imported kits. While pricing will be revealed next month, deliveries are expected to commence next year. The Camry will also be showcased at the Bharat Mobility Show in January.
