Skoda Rapid Automatic Launched In India At Rs. 9.49 Lakh

After a long wait, Skoda finally launched the much-awaited automatic variant of Rapid in India at the starting price of Rs. 9.49 lakh (Ex-Showroom), The automatic variant is available in five variants – Rider Plus, Ambition, Onyx, Style & Monte Carlo. When the BSVI variant was introduced, Skoda priced the entry-level model so aggressively against the competition, which resulted in a huge booking for the entry-level variant.

The company even had to temporarily discontinue the variant and introduced Rider Plus with some more features. The automatic variant also follows the same path as the entry-level Rider Plus undercut every competitor as the Rapid is almost 50,000 cheaper than the Ciaz. But when compared to both City and Verna, the entry-level variant is more than 2 lakh cheaper, which will help the Rapid to continue the growth.

The BS4 variant of Rapid was available with DSG gearbox but the BS6 transformation killed the dual-clutch and it will be replaced by a 6-speed torque converter. In BS6 avatar, Skoda won’t be offering the Rapid with diesel engine too as the sedan will be powered by 1.0 L TSI engine producing 110 PS of power and 175 Nm of Torque. According to ARAI, the Rapid automatic returns 16.24 kmpl, which is slightly lower than the competition.

When compared to the manual variant, except for the automatic badge Skoda hasn’t made any changes for the Rapid. The BS6 update include tweaked front grille with same projector headlamps and integrated LED DRLs. The side remains to be same and to spice up, Skoda has given black finish for the B-pillar and chrome garnish. The rear gets black trunk spoiler and a new bumper. We will soon bring you a detailed drive review of Rapid Automatic.
