Renault and Nissan officially announced the development of four new SUV models as the first products will be introduced in the market next year. One of the models is going to be the next-generation Renault Duster as the company has already revealed the model globally while the equivalent Nissan product is yet to be known but the company has released teasers during the announcement. Earlier both Nissan and Renault were offering diesel engines in the Indian market and they were extremely popular, especially in the Duster.
However, the company discontinued the diesel engine after BS6 emission norms. There were rumours that the diesel engine might make a return to India with the introduction of the new Duster and Nissan SUV. According to new reports, both Nissan and Renault won’t introduce diesel engines in the Indian market as they are focusing on petrol engines only. The entry-level models of the SUV come with a 1.0 L turbo petrol engine which already does duty on models like the Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger in India.
But this engine will get an update as the power output is expected to increase as these SUVs are bigger with added weight too. Along with this, another engine could be a 1.5 L naturally aspirated unit. The top-end models are likely to be powered by a 1.3 L turbo petrol engine, which is also shared with Mercedes Benz as the company had already used it in the Renault Duster and Nissan Kicks. Both these new SUVs are expected to bring in good volumes while the seven-seater models will be introduced by the end of next year.
