MG To Launch Gloster Facelift And Cloud EV In 2024

MG Motor India is gearing up for a dynamic year in 2024 with two major launches: the MG Gloster facelift and the all-new Cloud EV. This marks the brand’s return to aggressive market activity after over a year since the launch of the Comet in April 2023. Bolstered by recent investment from JSW, MG Motor India is poised to introduce new vehicles every three to six months, starting with these two models in the latter half of 2024. The MG Gloster, a robust SUV in the market since 2020, is set for a significant mid-cycle update.

The facelifted version, which aligns with the Maxus D90 facelift seen in Australia, will feature a completely new design both inside and out. Expect a striking new hexagonal grille with red highlights, a revamped split headlamp setup, pronounced wheel arches, and rugged cladding. The rear will showcase connected LED tail-lights and a reprofiled bumper, with possible new 18-inch alloy designs and additional chrome for the India-spec model. Inside, the Gloster facelift will boast a larger touchscreen, redesigned AC vents, and a new center console with updated switchgear.

Despite these cosmetic and technological updates, the SUV will retain its current 2.0-litre diesel engine, available in both 4×2 and 4×4 configurations. This update will likely result in a price increase from the current range of Rs. 38.80 lakh to Rs. 43.87 lakh (ex-showroom). The Cloud EV, known as the Baojun Yunduo in China and sold under the Wuling brand in Indonesia, will debut in India as an MG vehicle. This 4.3-meter-long EV, which resembles a blend between a large hatchback and an MPV, is a five-seater with two rows of seating. The minimalist interior includes a large floating touchscreen and seats that can fully recline to create a “sofa mode.”

The Cloud EV offers two battery options overseas: a 37.9kWh and a 50.6kWh, providing ranges of 360km and 460km, respectively. It is powered by a 134hp front-axle mounted motor. The exact specifications for India are yet to be confirmed, but it is expected to be priced under Rs. 20 lakh, benefiting from high localization levels. While exact launch dates are not confirmed, the Gloster facelift is anticipated around the festive season, with the Cloud EV possibly debuting by year-end. MG Motor India’s upcoming launches signal a promising expansion and innovation in the Indian automotive market.
