Massive Price Cut For Range Rover And Range Rover Sport

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has announced significant price cuts for its flagship Range Rover and Range Rover Sport SUVs in India, following the start of local assembly at its Pune facility. This move makes India the first country outside the UK to locally produce these high-end models. The new prices are highly competitive as the Range Rover 3.0-litre diesel HSE LWB is now priced at Rs 2.36 crore, a reduction of Rs 44 lakh, while the Range Rover Sport 3.0-litre diesel Dynamic SE is available at Rs 1.40 crore, down by Rs 29 lakh. This local production is expected to shorten waiting periods for these models as well.

JLR’s Pune facility already assembles models like the Velar, Evoque, Jaguar F-Pace, and Discovery Sport. However, the Defender, which was JLR’s bestseller in FY2024 with 1,314 units, remains a full import. JLR began local assembly in India in 2011 with Tata Motors, starting with the Freelander. The detailed price list for the locally assembled Range Rover has not been fully disclosed, but significant reductions have been announced: the 3.0-litre diesel HSE LWB variant at Rs 2.36 crore and the 3.0-litre petrol Autobiography LWB at Rs 2.60 crore, marking reductions of Rs 44 lakh and Rs 56 lakh, respectively. These prices are notably lower than the recently launched Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600, which is priced at Rs 3.35 crore. However, the short wheelbase versions and the 4.4-litre V8 variants will remain imports.

The locally assembled Range Rover will come with two engine options: a 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol producing 392hp and 550Nm, and a 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel producing 345hp and 700Nm. Deliveries have already commenced. The Range Rover Sport, which sold 404 units in FY2024, previously cost between Rs 1.69 crore and Rs 2.80 crore for import versions. Now, the locally assembled version starts at Rs 1.40 crore for both the petrol and diesel 3.0-litre Dynamic SE variants, reducing the price by Rs 29 lakh. A comprehensive price list for the locally assembled model is awaited. This version will also feature the same engine options as the Range Rover. Deliveries for the locally assembled Range Rover Sport are set to begin on August 16, 2024.
