Maruti Suzuki is gearing to launch the much-awaited petrol variant of S-Cross in India. The S-Cross petrol model was showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo and it is expected to be launched next month soon after the lockdown, which ends on May 31st. According to ZigWheels, Maruti will launch the S-Cross in three variants – Delta, Zeta and Alpha.
The upcoming model will be powered by a 1.5 L BS6 petrol engine, which also does duty on Ciaz and Vitara Brezza. This motor produces 104.9 PS of power at 6,000 rpm and 138 Nm at 4,400 rpm. Maruti will offer this engine with a smart hybrid system and dual-battery set up to improve the efficiency of the S-Cross.
So many prospective buyers were waiting eagerly for the introduction of an automatic transmission option with S-Cross and for the first time, Maruti will offer the S-Cross with two transmission options – 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic gearbox. We have seen this gearbox combination in other Maruti models also. The company hasn’t revealed mileage figures yet.
The reports also indicate that some dealerships have started accepting bookings for the S-Cross petrol for Rs. 11,000, even though Maruti Suzuki is yet to officially confirm it. The S-Cross base variant is expected to be priced at Rs. 9.90 lakh. The company has already discontinued the diesel variant of S-Cross and it will be available only as petrol model from now onwards.
