Mahindra XUV900 SUV Coupe Production Model Under Development

Mahindra is one of the manufacturers who like to take the risk and test the waters to create new segments. The Thar was the result of one such experiment as it created a new segment and the second-generation model is also a big success. The Indian manufacturer is working on a number of new products to completely revamp its portfolio and if reports are true then the ace designer Pratap Bose is also coming to Mahindra as design head.

According to a new report from Autocar India, Mahindra has finally given green light for the XUV900 SUV Coupe. The first hint of a coupe SUV was given back in 2016 with the XUV Aero Concept and even though response for the concept was really good the company was not confident to go ahead. The recent success of Thar helped the board member to think again and they can make a success out of the SUV Coupe, which gave the thumbs up for the engineers.

The XUV Aero concept was based on the outgoing XUV 500 but the new model will share its underpinnings with the upcoming XUV 700. The design theme is likely to be shared with XUV 700 and lots of components too as this will reduce the overall cost of the vehicle. But the big change is for the roof as it will taper down like most of the other SUVs. Aesthetically it will look really good but the engineers need to carve out more headroom.

The premium cabin expected on the XUV 700 will come to the SUV Coupe but with some changes to make it even more luxurious and the features list is going to be really long. The engine lineup includes a 2.0 L turbocharged petrol and a 2.2 L mHawk diesel unit with manual and automatic gearbox options with a four-wheel-drive system. The XUV 700 will enter the market later this year but the XUV 900 Coupe SUV is expected to reach sometime in 2023.
