Mahindra Thar Roxx Gets Five-Star Bharat NCAP Safety Rating

Mahindra Thar Roxx has earned a notable 5-star safety rating from Bharat NCAP for both adult and child occupant protection. This achievement highlights the SUV’s robust safety credentials, making it one of the safest internal combustion engine-powered vehicles tested by the agency to date. Both the base-spec MX3 and mid-spec AX5 L variants were evaluated, with the high rating applied across all versions. Safety features in the Thar Roxx include six airbags, three-point seatbelts with reminders for all occupants, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and ISOFIX anchor points for child seats in rear outboard positions.

The vehicle also meets AIS-100 pedestrian safety standards. Higher-end models even offer an ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) suite, further elevating its safety profile. Importantly, the Thar Roxx is also the first body-on-frame SUV to undergo Bharat NCAP testing. The Thar Roxx scored 31.09 out of 32 points in adult occupant protection (AOP), ranking second overall among Bharat NCAP-tested vehicles, with only the Tata Punch EV slightly ahead. Protection for the driver and passenger’s head and neck was rated as excellent, though the assessment for chest and knee protection for the driver was categorized as adequate.

The vehicle achieved 15.09 out of 16 points in the frontal offset deformable barrier test and a full 16 points in the side movable deformable barrier test, signifying comprehensive protection in these scenarios. In side pole impact testing, the rating was satisfactory. The Thar Roxx also successfully passed ESC evaluations, confirming its stability in challenging conditions. For child occupant safety, the Thar Roxx received a perfect 45 out of 49 points, sharing the top spot with the Tata Punch EV. In dynamic testing, it attained a flawless 24 out of 24 points, as well as full marks in the CRS (Child Restraint System) installation category. The Thar Roxx scored 9 out of 13 in the vehicle assessment segment. Child dummies representing an 18-month-old and a 3-year-old were tested in rearward-facing seats, securely fastened using ISOFIX anchorages and a support leg.
