Mahindra Thar Got Four Star Ratings In Global NCAP Rating

In the latest round of crash tests, the new generation Mahindra Thar got four stars, which is impressive considering that the predecessor was not great in safety. Mahindra has made lots of improvements in the chassis and bodyshell to make it safer. The Thar comes with dual airbags, ABS with EBD and a lot more as standard. In Overall adult protection, Mahindra Thar scored 12.57 out of 17. Global NCAP also mentioned that body can stand more impact.

Mahindra has focused a lot on child safety, which is why the Thar scored 41.11 points out pf 49 for child occupant safety, which is more than the recently 5-star rated XUV 300. The Thar comes with child restraint system (CRS) along with ISOFIX points and three-pointed seat belt. Mahindra Thar also passed the side impact test but the only reason for missing out 5-star ratings is because of the low score on the front impact crash.

Thar ESP was also tested and Global NCAP was not happy as they quoted as unstable dynamic behaviour. They have asked Mahindra to make improvements for the ESP system. One thing to be noted is that the model tested is LX top-spec model not the base variant as the AX model with steel wheels and basic features are yet to be on sale, so this helped the Thar to secure good score at the Global NCAP crash test.

Mahindra Thar is powered by 2.2 L mHawk diesel engine with 130 PS and 320 Nm. The petrol engine is powered by a 2.0 L turbo petrol unit with 150 PS and 320 Nm. These engines come with a 6-speed manual and auto gearbox with 4×4 as standard. The Thar is priced from 9.80 lakh to 13.75 lakh (Ex-Showroom). Global NCAP also tested Maruti Suzuki S-Presso, Hyundai Grand i10 and Kia Seltos, but all of them didn’t do well.
