By Tata Motors continues to test the Altroz Racer ahead of its official launch as the hatchback is expected to be introduced in the coming weeks. The Altroz racer was spied on by our eagle eye reader Shyam in Bangalore during the peak traffic as the company might be testing how the prototype performs in such situations. The company has been delaying the launch of the Altroz Racer for some time now as the model was initially showcased at the 2022 Auto Expo then we saw the updated version at the 2023 Bharat Mobility Expo.
The prototype we spotted had some camouflage but it looked similar to the earlier ones. Apart from looks, one of the major changes for the Altroz Racer compared to the regular model is the engine which is a 1.2 L turbocharged petrol engine the company already offers in the Altroz i-Turbo variant but this new Racer variant, produces 120 hp of power and 170 Nm of torque which is 10 hp and 30 Nm more than the i-Turbo but this is the same tuning which is available on the Nexon. This engine is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.
The Altroz Racer is not expected to come with an automatic gearbox as Tata Motors already offers the dual-clutch gearbox in the Altroz. The exterior difference of the Altroz Racer is limited to new colour options along with 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels apart from this everything else will be similar to the regular model. The interior finally gets the updated 10.25-inch infotainment system and the new digital instrument cluster with the latest software we have already seen in new-generation Tata models.
