BMW officially launched the much-awaited new F 900 R and F 900 XR in India. The F 900 R is priced at Rs. 9.90 lakh, while the F 900 XR focused towards touring, is priced at Rs. 10.50 lakh (both ex-showroom, Price). Both these motorcycles made their global debut at the 2019 EICMA and the company didn’t delay the India launch even with the COVID-19 situation. The launch of both these motorcycles happened via online as public events are not yet allowed in India.
The styling of F 900 series is unique as the R model comes with a naked motorcycle design theme while the XR gets a semi-fairing. The F 900 R gets a single LED headlamp unit compared to the dual headlamps set up of the XR. Both models use 43 mm upside-down forks at the front and mono-suspension at the rear but the XR has long suspension travel compared to the regular model, which will improve off-roading.
BMW is offering lots of standard features with the F 900 series which includes Full LED headlamps, LED tail lamps, 6.5 inches fully digital instrument cluster, Keyless Ignition, BMW Motorrad Connectivity, Automatic Stability Control, Traction Control and Two riding modes – Rain and Road. The XR comes with features like cruise control, gearshift assist and electronic suspension adjustment.
Both these modes are powered by the same 895 cc parallel-twin cylinder engine producing 105 hp of power at 8750 rpm and 92 Nm at 6,250 rpm. This engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. To reduce vibration and improve smoothness, BMW has added two-opposed counterbalance shafts. The engine is also tuned to give 87 Nm from as low as 4,500 rpm.
The braking duties are taken care of by dual disc brakes at the front and single unit at the rear. The F 900 R comes only in Standard variant while the XR is also available in Pro variant too. The F 900 R is available in two colour options – Black Storm Metallic with Silver Rims and Racing Red. In terms of pricing, the F 900 Series compete against Kawasaki Versys 1000. Soon we will bring a detailed review of the BMW F 900 Series.
