Analysis: Top 10 Best-Selling Sedans In October 2023

The sedan segment is one of the least growing segments in the automobile industry globally and in India too as people are moving to SUVs, which is the current trend and manufacturers are pushing toward these growing segments instead of the traditional sedans. In recent years, we have seen some changes as customer interest has increased thanks to the introduction of new-generation models like the new Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Virtus and Skoda Slavia. But the overall segment is not doing great numbers.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire is the best-selling sedan in India as the company sold 14,699 units in October 2023 compared to 12,321 units same month last year. The year-on-year growth is 19.30 per cent while the market share for the Dzire in the sedan segment is 46.34 per cent. The Dzire simply dominates the segment as the product is really good because the compact sedan offers good space, features and efficient engines at affordable prices while the brand Dzire is really strong too and has the trust of customers.

The second-best-selling sedan in India is the Hyundai Aura as the company sold 4096 units in October 2023 compared to 4248 units in the same month last year but the model registered negative year-on-year growth of 3.58 per cent and the market share is 12.91 per cent, which is more or less remains the same for some time now. Honda Amaze is the third-best-selling sedan in India which sold 2890 units in October 2023 compared to 5443 units in the same month last year as it registered a negative 46.90 per cent growth.

Hyundai Verna is the best-selling sedan in its segment with sales of 2313 units and registering year-on-year growth of 6.15 per cent while the market share in the overall sedan segment for the Verna is 7.29 per cent. Skoda sold 1943 units in October 2023 and posted 41.21 per cent year-on-year growth. The Virtus also continue to post strong growth as the company sold 1772 units last month compared to 1072 units the same month last year posting strong year-on-year growth of 65.30 per cent.

Tata Tigor continues to slip down as the company sold just 1563 units last month compared to 4001 units in the same month last year thus resulting in negative 60.93 per cent year-on-year growth. Honda City is another model which is struggling a lot in the sedan segment as the Japanese manufacturer sold just 1553 units in October 2023 compared to 3250 units in the same month last year. The last two models in the top 10 list are Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and Toyota Camry as both these models are expected to get replaced sometime soon.
